From the dreams of Arthur C Clarke & Vannevar Bush, to the realities of Tim Berners-Lee & Satoshi, the internet pierced the laws of physics and pulled language into a virtual dimension. But what did it leave behind? Can Al, Bitcoin, Identity, Encryption unlock the real internet?
After It’s Said is a documentary exploring the interconnection between language, the internet, and human rights - a subject that resonates in our increasingly digital world. The film explores new open-source internet protocols as a "completion" to the original concept of the internet as a universal communication tool.
We use the value of language as a basis to weigh where the internet is at and where it can go. We reframe the value of language, offering a fresh perspective every audience can appreciate and enjoy by touching on the fundamentals with linguists such as David Adger and David Crystal. We then move into the creation of the internet and how it operates as an empowering tool of language. This builds a case for the latest protocols and how essential they are to achieving the natural qualities of language (encrypted messaging, DID/VC/DWN, Bitcoin, open-source AI).
Our exploration extends to the influence of AI, large language models (LLMs), and key organizations such as W3C and ITF, underlining the urgency of open-source solutions in preserving fundamental human rights.
After It's Thrown (AIS Short Film)
This short will weave a narrative following some of the outspoken leading activists of the Uyghur people and just how vital their language, voice, and ways of expressing themselves are to their culture. We then see what it means for a tool like the internet to be twisted against humanity's gift of language. Our hope is that the vulnerability and inclusion offered to us will make these abstract concepts of the internet real for our audience and raise the importance of the efforts going on right now by groups.
We hope to complete the short film by April and screen it at places like your gallery as well as the Oslo Freedom Forum in June. We have 80% of it done which will bridge with the full feature and looking for sponsorship to complete the production and post-production by April to May.
Enjoy our teaser and stay tuned in for more! This film is for everyone and meant to inspire an appreciation for language and those who can build a better internet that empowers everyone.
